Roselle Park is a borough in Union County, New Jersey, in the New York metropolitan area, roughly 20 miles southwest of Manhattan. Its 1.3 square miles make it one of the region's compact, densely settled commuter boroughs, with a population of about 14,000. The community's history is tied to the railroads. A train stop was established around 1858, and in 1967 the Aldene Connection opened in Roselle Park, linking the Central Railroad of New Jersey with the Lehigh Valley Railroad and allowing passengers to travel directly to Newark Penn Station and transfer for New York. Today, NJ Transit's Raritan Valley Line stops in the borough, preserving that commuter role. The area was originally part of Elizabethtown, later Union Township, and ultimately became an independent borough.
