River Edge is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, situated along the Hackensack River in the northern part of the state, about twenty miles from Midtown Manhattan. The 2020 census counted roughly 12,050 residents within a compact area of under two square miles, giving the borough a dense but suburban, small-town feel. The community was incorporated in 1894 as Riverside, drawing on its location along the Hackensack River, and was renamed River Edge in 1930.
