Kearny occupies the western edge of Hudson County, New Jersey, between the Passaic River and the Hackensack River, directly west of Newark and about ten miles from Midtown Manhattan. The most celebrated legacy is soccer. Kearny is widely known as "Soccertown, USA" and is considered the cradle of American soccer, the place where the game took hold in the United States and produced generations of national-team players. Kearny is also a commuter town.
