Delaware Township is a rural township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, occupying a landscape of rolling farmland, wooded hills, and winding country roads just east of the Delaware River. Part of the township lies on the Hunterdon Plateau, while its southern reaches descend into the Amwell Valley. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of about 4,560, spread across a low-density area where fields, pastures, and preserved open space still define the character of the land. Sergeantsville, the community's principal village, was first settled around 1700 and remains a small crossroads of stone houses and historic buildings.
