Byram is a township in Sussex County, New Jersey, in the Skylands region of the state's northwest corner. It covers more than 22 square miles and is home to roughly 8,000 residents, giving it a low density and a heavily wooded, lake-dotted landscape quite different from New Jersey's urban core. The township is bisected by U.S. Route 206, which carries most of its commercial traffic, while a small slice of Interstate 80 crosses its southern tip without an interchange. Lakeland Bus Lines provides commuter service, linking the area to the region's job centers. Byram is best known for two attractions: Waterloo Village, a restored 19th-century canal town along the Morris Canal that is now a historic site surrounded by state parkland, and Wild West City, a long-running Old West theme park. Public school students attend the Byram Township School District for elementary and middle grades and Lenape Valley Regional High School for high school, a district shared with the neighboring communities of Stanhope and Netcong. Byram students previously attended Sparta High School before the regional district was created in 1974.
