Warren County Township by the Delaware

Apartments in Lopatcong, NJ

Welcome to Lopatcong Township, a Warren County community bordering Phillipsburg along the Delaware River, just across from Easton, Pennsylvania, and within the Lehigh Valley.

Lopatcong is a township in Warren County, New Jersey, in the state's northwestern corner along the Delaware River, immediately north of the city of Phillipsburg and across the river from Easton, Pennsylvania. The 2020 census counted 8,776 residents. The municipality was created in 1851 as Phillipsburg Township from portions of Greenwich and Harmony townships, and later took the name Lopatcong. The township's character is shaped by its location at the western edge of the New York metro's commuting orbit and the doorstep of the Lehigh Valley. U.S. Route 22 runs through its southern section, forming part of the boundary with Phillipsburg, while Route 57 crosses the center of town and Interstate 78 passes nearby. This highway network makes Lopatcong a convenient base for commuters heading toward Easton, Bethlehem, Allentown, and, farther east, the northern New Jersey suburbs and New York City. Residentially, Lopatcong is a mix of established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions, with single-family homes on wooded and gently rolling terrain. The township balances suburban growth with open space, and its parks and recreation program anchors community life. Growth has been steady, with the population rising markedly between 2000 and 2020 as new housing attracted families seeking a Pennsylvania-New Jersey border location. Education is provided through the Lopatcong Township School District, a K-8 system, after which students attend Phillipsburg High School — whose modern campus was built within Lopatcong's borders. The township's recreation complex, Lopatcong Park, spans more than 80 acres with ballfields, walking paths, and playgrounds. Proximity to the Delaware River and the Easton waterfront adds boating, fishing, and trail access. For residents, Lopatcong offers the convenience of a suburban township with easy access to both Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley and the amenities of northwestern New Jersey.
